The best thickness for an anti fatigue mat depends on the material used. Our PU foam mat is 19mm thick, to give the right balance between comfort and support.
The science behind anti fatigue mats is known as 'dynamic ergonomics'. The 'give' in the mat encourages tiny movements, which keep the leg muscles working, encouraging blood flow and boosting energy levels.
A standing desk mat isn't necessary for a standing desk setup, but it's incredibly beneficial. That's because cushioned standing mats are made of a shock-absorbent material that raises users off hard floors, resulting in a more comfortable standing position.
Still, if you'd rather work your leg muscles and increase blood flow while using a standing desk, you can also invest in a desk foot rocker or stationary elliptical machine. These accessories encourage users to make small movements to keep their balance or improve blood circulation.
How long you should stand on the mat depends on you and your level of experience. If you're new to sit-stand work, start by trying 15 mins of each hour. If you're more experienced, you should be able to split your sit/stand time 50:50.
